Every time we go through the newspaper or sit to watch the evening news, we would find one or more news about the failing backbone of the education system. There is no denying the fact the education system and the amenities for education have improved all the world over, yet the basic responsibility of education which is to impart the moral education is staggeringly slow. We seem to be living in the past centuries yet when moral upliftment through education is concerned, because there are the same cases of thefts in school, along with stealing, lying and cheating in case of the students. The students are into ragging, bullying and fighting among each other. There are instances of adolescent students picking up the gun to kill their own classmates. This is so gruesome an act that we are put to shame about such happening standing in this century of rocket science and advanced information technology.
If we go into a research of the background of these happenings we would be perturbed to see that even parents and teachers beat their children to death or commit a crime as heinous as murdering their own children. The adults have lost direction in their lives that the children are to follow. Education is not only the achieving of marks but the all round development of the child as Rousseau had put in long back. Swami Vivekananda speaks of “education as the manifestation of perfection already in man”. We need to be perfect to manifest it though and here is where we are going wrong. Education is not all performance based, it also depends on what we have achieved to become a better man and in order to look at life’s situations and adapt ourselves to it. We need people to be more conscious to strengthen the backbone of this collapsing education system. Is the Minister of Education all ears to that?
The academic achievement at the American schools is still not promising, in spite of the various efforts. The educators are trying to look into the problem and the cause of this poor achievement. Some people talk about the excessive homework burden which leaves the students worn out and exhausted. There have been recent investigations and in once such report, Denis Clarke Pope, a lecturer of the Stanford University writes on stress caused on the students. There is the lack of challenge, as she points out, in the school environment. And the stress is not due to the heavy workload. This is the cause of the low proficiency and wrong assessments, assessments that are not coherent with their curriculum and therefore, the list is never ending.
The various factors that are responsible for not being able to challenge students in school and create an interest in studies could be incomprehension of the purpose of studying. The teachers do not mention specifically to the students what the outcomes of learning a particular subject are and why they should learn the subject and get assessed for that. The assessment system is wrong as assessments are a tool to catch the students on the wrong and not to give them the true essence of what they learnt. This creates a fear in the minds of the students regarding assessments. Teachers set tasks which are unrelated and students try to memorize them without understanding. Moreover, the students should develop a habit of working on their own, do their own research and be more proactive in the process.
The parent’s attitude is also responsible in creating an interest for academics in the student’s mind. The parents are more performance oriented rather than looking at what the child achieves in life through their studies. They should aim not at the quantity but on the quality knowledge gathered by the students.
Online education is the buzz word of the day after millions of online education websites are springing up with the honest objective of imparting education. But not all objectives are in the right earnest and that often ends up in getting linked to websites that rob you off your money while promising to impart the best e learning. Only if you have made up your mind in joining the online education group, you should go on a proper research on the various websites that are secure and those who offer to impart education online
Actually online education can be a bit pricey when compared to the traditional college education where people can visit the colleges and listen to lectures or exchange notes. Online education on the other hand would require the organization, self discipline and knowledge of modern technology. Students who prefer to study online learn through written words and not what they hear. The students must be comfortable in sharing information online. They would have to realise that they have stepped out of the traditional classroom environment in the world of the internet. Students who are more of social birds will not be happy in an online education environment. It is a study that reveals that quieter students do well on the internet learning atmosphere.
So if you prefer working in solitude and you have the computer and the all time internet access, online education is the thing for you. It will work wonders for you if you have chosen the right website or the program. The price for education is not a factor if you have the right type of education to boost you up. You are sure to come out in flying colors any of these days.
Lots of students are quite flummoxed as to which courses they should follow just after they complete their secondary education. There are options available but there are more people not going for further education and joining the workforce. Students often change their minds about the career they should follow and they often start changing their majors. Some students completely change their course directions. Private colleges are more expensive and cost a lot of money to study there.
There is a stopper, whether an employer would care for whether the applicant has passed from a private college or from the usual community college. Inmost cases the employers rather look at the skills and experience part of the resume than looking at the education part of it. But if you are looking to find a job that would require more skills, you would do a good job to study at a community college. The community colleges tend to impart education that is skill based all the more and that which prepares the students for his work.
Private colleges would impart less of skill based education. Employers would hire a student straight out of a good college. A private college would be a good choice therefore for people who are career minded. Students need to choose which path to choose and they must do this practically and therefore they should be able to make a proper choice between the private and community colleges. Of course there is no hard and fast rule about which college is the employer’s choice. It depends on the practicality of the situation.
In India, Like Men and Women’s population children also constitute the good amount of population. Becoming the powerful country in near future is completely based on the current children’s education system and continuous improvement on the same. To meet the rapid developing world, India surely needs to redesign and rediscover children’s education system. Still in India, several children do not even get a basic elementary education. The rich and upper middle classes in cities find decent quality private schools to send their children. The well-educated parents in cities of India are even ready to start the education for their kids from 3 months itself by means of toys, CDs, Abacus kind of studies. They are very eager and curious to make their kids a super natural one and super kids. But in the other side, both the private and government schools in smaller towns and villages are uniformly pathetic and they’re not in a position to give competency with city’s schools. If this continues there will be a huge gap in the talents of the children who has been born brought up in small towns and villages while comparing to one from the well-developed cities. Government should take good initiative on this to make the schools in the villages to come up the city level by providing some kind of training to the teachers.
Women constitute almost half of the population in the world. Especially in India, Women and children constitute nearly more than half of the other sectors. But still in some remote area of India only the guys are allowed to go to school, the girls responsibility still remaining as cooking and taking care of home. Even their mother’s are ready put them into home management and younger kids caretaking. The rise of feminist ideas have, however, led to the tremendous improvement of women’s condition through out the world in recent times. It remains true in India too. Access to education has been one of the most pressing demands of theses women’s rights movements. Women’s education in India has also been a major preoccupation of both the government and civil society as educated women can play a very important role in the development of the country. So the Government has decided to give 33% reservation for women in all job sectors. Women’s education not only helps in the development of half of the human resources, but in improving the quality of life at home and outside. The educated woman can guide their kids and family in a better way in all aspects and also the women’s education will be one of the great solutions to control the population and poverty.
India being number two in population at world level, reaching the 100% literacy is the big mile stone for Indian education system. But still the growth rates of educated people among all the state in India shows that soon it will reach the 100% literacy. So the primary goal of the Indian education system is to make the primary education must for all. Due to large population the poverty is still there in some parts of country the only one way to implement the mandatory primary education is “free education” or some reservation against the poor people or in other terms against the society, which is not, yet developed to have the basic level of life, i.e. Not able to meet their basic needs of life. So Indian government is following the reservation for under privileged people across the country. This will definitely help India to reach the ultimate goal 100% literacy. “Kerala” is the only one Indian state to reach this goal so far among 30 states. So by keeping the poor children in school and maintaining quality of education in rural areas, and providing a reservation in all levels of education, from primary to higher education will surely lead to 100% literacy in near future.
After the child has completed and achieved success in gaining primary education, he/she is promoted to the secondary stage of education. In the United States the secondary level is usually the last stage comprising compulsory education levels. The secondary level of education is a preparatory stage for higher education like university or other types of vocaional studies. It prepares the students for transition from primary level of education to the study of their choice in higher education.
Secondary education, similar to primary education is imparted in schools where usually the different subjects like science, mathematics, history, geography etc. are taught in detail by teachers specialising in these subjects. Secondary education in essence is education for teenagers. The exact age of transition from primary to secondary education levels is different in different countries and sometimes even within the country, but usually the 5th to 10th year’s education is the secondary education level. In Canada, the United States and Australia, the primary level and secondary level of education are collectively termed K – 12 education.
The main aim of secondary education is to provide higher knowledge about different subjects and to provide common knowledge which will prepare the student for higher education in universities or for vocational education.
Primary education is the first phase of formal education and follows pre – primary or nursery school education. This phase of education in most countries starts at the age of 5 or 6 and continues for 4 years. Primary education is mandatory in many countries like the United States.
The child is prepared mentally for further education in the nursery school stage and once proven fit for further education is promoted to the primary section. The chilled needs to go to a formal school for primary education, but in some cases the parents may arrange for the child to be educated at home as well.
In schools the child keeps advancing steadily in classes till such time as is right for hi/her to be promoted high school or secondary school. There is one teacher who is responsible to educate the children through the year and is responsible for their overall welfare. Sometimes the class teacher is assisted by other teachers who are specialists especially in subjects like music, art or physical training.
The primary goal of this level of education is to achieve basic literacy for all the students and establishing a foundation in subjects like science, mathematics, history, geography etc.
Higher education, also known as tertiary education or third level education is basically post-secondary education. This level of education is not compulsory and it follows after a student successfully completes secondary level education. Higher education generally includes undergraduate, post graduate or vocational training. At the end of each course of higher education a student recieves a diploma or a degree.
Higher education basically provides specialised knowledge of a particular subject, be it scientific subjects like chemistry, physics and biology or mathematics, languages, commerce etc. It can also be gaining of some vocational skill like engineering, designing, music, drama etc. The student can use this specialised knowledge to create a career for himself or herself.
Higher education is provided by colleges and universities which have teachers ( called professors) specialising in each subject being taught in the college or university. The colleges and universities themselves specialise in particular subjects and there are different colleges and universities for different subjects like commerce, engineering, languages etc. These institutions providing higher education are known by different names in different countries, for intance community college or university in the U.S., TAFE in Australia, IEK in Greece etc. These institutes provide the knowledge necessary for a student to build a career.
